WITH ENGINE REVING DAVID ALYASSIN IS ON TRACK
While New Mexico’s David Alyassin isn’t a professional driver, he does happen to own a racecar. The car’s chassis is his clean lifestyle and profoundly positive outlook and his uncanny knack for songwriting is the engine reving under the hood. With that in hand, he is en route to his own checkered flag of sorts. “Having a project called ‘Racecar’ helps a lot, rather than me just trying to market my name,” David said of his incessant grassroots self-promotion. “I have a strong social side, so I guess I have an affinity for it. But, I also pace myself and I don’t expect miracles. I find it easy to run that race.” While the interview wasn’t one long racing analogy, it was a peek into the life of a truly humble-yet-inspired artist who has no fear of going it alone. To listen to him, he sounds more sage than songwriter, and his answers sound more providence than prefabrication. “I have my own path,” he said. “And it’s a cleaner, straighter line that what you find in the industry now.” Presently, David’s solo songwriting emphasis is the Racecar project. Ever a collaborative effort, David works with a myriad of artists to bring the vision of Racecar to fruition. “I look for artists that love life and what their doing and who run a clean ship. I went through the drug use and alcohol abuse and wrote a lot during those days, but now my priorities are different.” The self proclaimed “alternative acoustic rock songwriter” is set to release Dance Like a Ghost, (released 2008) of which he says: “It’s powerful. It’s hot, clean and very inspired. It is as impeccable as any other professional album out there and I think it’s one of the best rock albums to come out of New Mexico.” http://www.skopemagazine.com |
